There’s a new reason to stay out a little later in Sydney, and it’s hiding down a laneway off Oxford Street.
Meet LOA, the newest venue from ESCA Group, tucked beneath Amé on Foley Street in Darlinghurst. Years in the making, LOA is a cocktail and listening bar built around good music, considered drinks and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay for one more.
The space feels worlds away from the street above, with moody red lighting, intimate corners and a custom-built Martin Audio sound system at its heart. Expect DJs spinning house, disco and soul throughout the week, alongside live music, playful cocktails and a late-night food menu that brings some of the kitchen upstairs at Amé downstairs with you.
The drinks are just as much a part of the experience, from the signature soft-serve Gimlet to the Skinny Colada, while the Wagyu burger, fries and Martini happy hour combination is reason enough to make an early start of your night.
But what makes LOA particularly exciting is the story behind it. As ESCA Group co-founder Ibby Moubadder shared with Broadsheet, the opportunity to take on the site first came about more than five years ago. Now, LOA arrives as part of a new chapter for Oxford Street, a precinct with a long history of music, nightlife and self-expression.
It feels like a venue made for discovering, whether you’re dropping in for a cocktail, meeting friends before a night out or finding yourself on the dance floor hours later.
I recently shared LOA on Instagram, and the response was a reminder of just how much excitement there is around Sydney’s evolving hospitality scene.
